Adhesive Applications – Investing in a Skilled Manufacturing Workforce

Advanced manufacturing is growing and thriving in the United States, especially at Adhesive Applications!

As part of our commitment and dedication to our employees, Adhesive Applications partnered with the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP) to provide a yearlong workforce training opportunity for five of our employees from all parts of manufacturing – coating, converting, and shipping. Classes began in November 2021 and met three times a month for four hours each. 150 hours of total classroom time were required to complete the program, plus homework assignments.

The Front Line Supervisor Apprentice Program is a virtual training based on the apprentice model of learning in the classroom and then applying what you learn on the job. The classes were developed after the manufacturing community recognized that businesses often promoted people from within but did not give them the training and tools to be successful in their new roles. Supervisors are key employees, and they need to have a good toolbox and mentoring to build on as they grow in their careers.

Companies need reliable employees who can communicate well, effectively make decisions, and are interested in long-term careers with opportunities for advancement.
Adhesive Applications knows the value of developing employees to build our bench and capacity, so we were thrilled to have Tony Kibler (Shipping Supervisor), Chris Bailey (Converting Supervisor), Marque Sheppard (Coater #1 Lead Operator), Tim Lukowski (Converting Operator), and Sarai Kon (Shipping Lead) participate in the development training program. Their commitment to improving their skills and the company will help grow our future and current leaders.

The program concluded this week with graduation, and each participant was required to present their ideas on improvements to our business, ranging from machine fixes to communicating across multiple languages to training planning. Petra Schaefer, President, commented on the success of the training, “We are so thrilled to have partnered with MassMEP to help improve our employees’ skills and provide them with a robust workforce training. In fact, there are three more of our employees who are currently in the program! We are ready for our future!”
